Non-Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities


Position:

Second Hand Rose Volunteer

Description: Turning Point owns and operates a resale shop that accepts many wonderful donations from the community. If you are interested in a fast-paced physical workout, sorting and organizing, this would be a great place for you to volunteer.
Training: No specialized training is required.
Time: 4 hours per week

Position:

Maintenance and Repair Volunteer

Description: The shelter can be viewed as a big house, and like all houses, things break and/or need updating. If this is your talent, we are always looking for people to complete projects around the shelter like painting, gardening, fixing appliances, updating window treatments or working on cars.
Training: No specialized training is required.
Time: 4 hours per week

Position:

Administrative/Clerical Volunteer

Description: We have many phone lines, so if you like working on the phone, this is the job for you. We are also seeking help with filing, documentation, typing, and keeping up-to-date on all our data entry.
Training: No specialized training is required.
Time: 4 hours per week

Position:

Executive Committee Member

Description: Committee consists of the Board officers and is convened by the Board Chair. This committee exercises the authority of the Board in interim period and in matters of emergency between regularly scheduled meetings. The Executive Committee always reports on its actions at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting.
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: Meeting set by Board Chair

Personnel Committee Member

Description: This committee works with Turning Point management staff to ensure adherence to labor laws, appropriate personnel practice with the goal of developing a quality work environment that develops and maintains staff and reflects diversity. Tasks include reviewing personnel policies and making recommended changes, review of benefit package, development/review of staff development plan, review salary schedules etc.
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: 4-6 meetings per year

Position:

Budget & Finance Committee Member

Description: This committee works as a team with the Finance Director, CEO, auditors and other finance professionals to ensure Turning Point's fiscal responsibility. The committee provides oversight of the development of the agency's annual budget, recommends agency budget to full board, and reviews and analyzes quarterly statements and investments. The committee also provides financial perspective and advice on board issues, board education on financial statements, and engages and ensures that an annual audit is completed in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: 4-6 meetings per year

Position:

Fundraising Committee Member

Description: This committee works with the CEO and Fund Developer to plan and implement short and long range funding plans for the organization. Short term plans focus on achieving the financial goals set in the annual budget, while long range plans ensure the organization will have the financial resources necessary to meet the goals of its strategic plan. Tasks include: Review of yearly Fund Development Plan, soliciting individuals and organizations, developing methods by which Board Members can support the fundraising plan, educating the full board on Fund Development Plan and how they can support the plan, techniques of planned giving, establishing event sub committees and evaluating special events. Members of the Fundraising Committee should be willing to lead by example. Fundraising Committee members may also chair an annual or special event committee.
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: 4-6 meetings per year

Position:

Nominating Committee Member

Description: This committee works with the CEO to identify and recruit qualified board candidates with the skills that can help the agency meet its long range plan. Committee members look to the future of the organization and focus their efforts on seeking out and asking individuals with the needed skills to run for board membership. The nominating committee anticipates vacancies and establishes criteria for asking board members to serve an additional term. It also that the board evaluates itself at least bi-annually.
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: 4-6 meetings per year

Position:

Facilities Committee Member

Description: The role of the Facilities Committee is to assess and help develop a plan that ensures Turning Point's facilities have the capacity to implement Turning Point's mission. Committee member are knowledgeable in the areas of: facilities, real estate, construction, security, risk management, computer technology, building maintenance and design. This committee will make recommendations to the Board of Directors on a site for a new facility that will provide emergency shelter in order to provide safety for women and children fleeing from domestic violence.
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: 4-6 meetings per year

Position:

Public Relations Committee Member

Description: The role of the PR Committee is to assist Turning Point staff in reviewing and updating Turning Point's marketing and public relations materials. Committee members help with the design of the annual report, program brochures, and other agency materials. Committee members also assist the Second Hand Rose store manager in evaluating the success of a yearly marketing plan to increase donors and customers for the store.
Training: One hour orientation.
Time: 4-6 meetings per year
