Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities


Position:

Crisis Line Worker

Description: Working on our crisis line is an exciting experience and best suited for those who like to be on the phone providing crisis intervention, support and resources to those in need.
Training: Must complete Turning Point's 40-hour Core Volunteer Training
Time: 4 hrs per week

Position:

Resident Advocate

Description: Our shelter houses 40 women and children, therefore we are always looking for assistance. This includes providing transportation to appointments, assisting in the kitchen and pantry and keeping the shelter clean and well maintained.
Training: Must complete Turning Point’s 40-hour Core Volunteer Training
Time: 4 hours per week

Position:

Child Care Advocate

Description: Many of the shelter’s beds are filled with children, it is important to have lots of help! Volunteers help with childcare, playing with the children, cleaning, and assisting with field trips or organizing special events.
Training: Must complete Turning Point’s 40-hour Core Volunteer Training
Time: 4 hours per week

Position:

First Response Advocate

Description: The First Response Program is a rewarding and demanding experience in which volunteers are on-call for 12-hour shifts certain nights of the month. If called, volunteers go to area hospitals or Turning Point’s Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) program, to provide crisis intervention and offer resources to sexual assault survivors.
Training: Must complete Turning Point’s 40-hour Core Volunteer Training and the First Response 24-hour training
Time: 3 to 4 on-call shifts,12 hours each, a month

Position:

Personal Protection Order Advocate

Description: Personal Protection Orders (PPOs) offer more safety to survivors of domestic violence and stalking, but the process for obtaining a PPO can be overwhelming. Volunteers help clients complete necessary paperwork and answer questions. They also advocate for survivors when needed.
Training: Must complete Turning Point’s 40-hour Core Volunteer Training
Time: 4 hours per week

Position:

Court Advocate Court

Description: Advocates work with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault as they proceed through the criminal justice system. They offer support and information on the criminal justice system, including, but not limited to accompanying survivors to court dates, assisting them with legal documents and talking with prosecutors and police. Must complete Turning Point's 40-hour Core Volunteer Training 4 hours per week and is based on current court
Training: Must complete Turning Point’s 40-hour Core Volunteer Training
Time: 4 hours per week
